Definitely agree with you there man, this show kinda turned me off unfortunately. The fact that they played other stuff more than their own was my first problem, and my roomate has the same problem with the guy's vocals. Personally, I just listen to the lyrics which I love, but your right about how their voices could really be better in general. Hehe, they really do butcher STH and I cant blame your kid for laughin. At least its good to know i'm not the only one in AZ who likes monsoon....I'm in chandler. Good news though, I had a chat with their manager and monsoon will be swinging through the desert somewhere in either spring or fall according to him.

I really, really like New Monsoon and have a ton of their shows. This one here seems to have more covers than usual, and that's what caught my attention. It also caused a lot of laughter in my house. I'd burned the CDRs and was playing them, when my son came in laughing as NM's vocalist really tried and failed to hit the high notes and the moans on their cover of Stairway to Heaven. Ditto with the Hendrix covers, and then, when I thought it couldn't get worse, it did, with Dream On. Musically, these guys are great, but THEY HAVE TO GET SOMEONE WHO CAN SING! There, I've finally said it! New Monsoon will never "break through" until they get someone who has a good singing voice. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but, damn, my son thought I was listening to some band doing a parody of Stairway to Heaven! Musically, this is a good, solid four star show. Audio-wise, the sound is nice and clear. But, man, this band needs a decent vocalist in the worst way. I mean, good ol' Phil Lesh gives it his best and he's at least got Joan Osbourne to cover him up at times. Phil and Friends rocked when Chris Robinson sat in for a month or two a while back. Please, New Monsoon, I love you guys and your music. But, damn it, don't hate me, but let Raj go wild on the tablas, emulate the Steve Kimock Band and play only instrumentals, or find someone who can sing. PLEASE!!!! I have to give this three stars for the really sad vocals, especially on Stairway and Dream On...
